2021 Women in Construction: Grace Steward, Project Engineer, C.E. Floyd Company

What was your greatest achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? Working on an assisted living community in Westport, CT. This was our 2nd project with the client and because of the work our team put in, they have chosen us for additional projects. It’s great knowing that a client wants to continue partnering with your company because of the work put in by your team.

What are you most looking forward to post-pandemic? Traveling and hanging out with friends and family.

Why should women consider a career in the A/E/C industry? Women have a different way of thinking. Bringing this into a “male-dominated” field will help teams achieve their goals and deliver a quality project to the owner. It’s not always easy, but the feeling of completing a project is like nothing else.

How have you adapted and changed in the last 12 months? I feel as though my time management has improved since the pandemic. When working from home there are certain distractions and responsibilities that you don’t have in an office setting. This has actually helped me to stay focused and complete work tasks in a timely manner in order to take care of my home. I also started taking a few short walks throughout the day to recharge and have some time away from the computer.
