Woburn, MA Cummings Properties has been named a 2025 Mass Save Climate Leader in recognition of its sustained commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing energy efficiency.

Awarded annually, the Climate Leader designation honors organizations demonstrating exceptional leadership in sustainability. Cummings earned this distinction for its long-standing investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and environmentally conscious construction.

“Commercial real estate plays a vital role in addressing climate change,” said Ernie Agresti, vice president – administration of Cummings. “As a developer, owner, and manager of more than 11 million s/f of space, we recognize the environmental impact of our decisions and are proud to partner with Mass Save to lead the way toward a cleaner, more resilient future.”

Notable recent upgrades throughout the firm’s portfolio included nearly 150 electric heat pump units, thousands of LED lighting installations, enhanced building insulation and weatherization, and high-efficiency HVAC equipment and controls, including dozens of variable frequency drives (VFDs).

According to Massachusetts Program Administrator Eversource Energy, the benefits of these efficiency upgrades exceed simple cost savings for Cummings’ commercial leasing clients and nonprofit senior living communities.

“Collectively, these measures will generate net lifetime savings of more than two million kWh of electricity – equivalent to avoiding the greenhouse gas emissions from driving 4.4 million miles in a gas-powered car,” wrote the Sponsors of Mass Save in their October 8 announcement of the 2025 Climate Leaders.

Cummings’ green business practices span a range of focus areas. Low-flow fixtures and green landscaping methods help to conserve water, and more than 2.5 megawatts of rooftop solar power provides clean energy for clients while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. In addition, the firm’s in-house design and construction teams emphasize sustainable construction practices by prioritizing eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient systems, and environmentally responsible buildouts.

Cummings Properties’ recognition as a Mass Save Climate Leader underscores its strategy of balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility,” said Agresti. “We are forever exploring new technologies and partnerships to reduce emissions and help our more than 2,000 client firms operate more sustainably.”
