2022 Women in Construction: Michelle Latino, Assistant Project Manager at Callahan Construction Managers

Michelle Latino

Within your firm, who has helped you succeed within the industry? How have they helped you? I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help and support of my field superintendents. Not having a construction background or degree in a related field has proved challenging at times, but my supers have always been helpful. Each super I’ve interacted with at Callahan has taught me something in their respective fields of expertise. Additionally, they’ve not only been patient with my many questions, but enthusiastic about getting me out in the field to explain things firsthand. They have without a doubt been a huge part of my success and growth within the industry.

What tips or advice would you offer to other women who are considering entering the construction industry? Don’t be afraid to speak up! As a woman working in a male dominated industry, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. Not speaking up not only hurts yourself but can impact the success of your projects. One of the main challenges in construction is the coordination required which is often unique and project specific. The best way to tackle these issues is through bouncing ideas off one another and sharing past experiences. Even if you do not have a complete solution, you may have a piece of the puzzle needed to get to the most effective resolution.
